The war is going well
June 5th, 2009As some of you already know, I’ve recently declared war. I know what you’re thinking, “but Julie! You’re such a peace-loving girl!”
Well, I guess sometimes I favor a good genocide. Especially when I’m growing onions. Meet my enemy (warning, jump is not for the faint of heart):
This is the Earwig.
I hate you, earwig. I hate you for being ugly, creepy, crawly, and bug-gy. But most of all I hate you for eating my onions down to pathetic little nubs.
After seeing my onions decimated, I was ready to “nuke from orbit,” as they say, but then I found a recipe for earwig destruction online which is non toxic and easy to make. Mix equal parts vegetable oil, soy sauce and molasses until the mixture is relatively smooth. Then poor it into a container and set it at the base of a plant with damage. After telling my roommate to go buy me some molasses, I followed the directions and the following morning saw this:
To which my response was “EEEWW…YAY!” Now, I’m off to costco to buy jumbo-jugs of vegetable oil, molasses and soy sauce because I’ve got earwigs everywhere.

As official sponsor and financier of this war, I’m happy to see such quick progress come so smoothly. Now, if there was only something we could do about those horrid black mites that have had to too easy for too long. I’ve already got lines on some potato bugs willing to pay top dollar(!) once the field is cleared out, but damnit, they won’t wait around forever!
@ravenber Yous! You so cute. Thanks for financing my war. Now, if I could only get you to post comments on my blog w/o typos
@calinazaret No more comments for you! YOU LOSE! -_-
