Failure Notice
May 4th, 2009Awwwwwweeee
I am so bummed. After almost 8 years, I finally got around to writing this message:
Hello random person of the internet. You don’t know me but I promise I’m not a spammer asking for money or whatever, I just want to tell a story about my username– calinazaret.
Almost 7 years ago I set up my first email account and I wanted to pick a name which reflected my religion (nazarene) and that I’m a girl (et, so nazaret). But when I checked for availability it was already taken. I was pretty bummed, but I added “cali” for california on there and that wasn’t taken.
Anyway, over the years I’ve always kind of wondered who nazaret was. I imagine you’re another supercool chick like me, maybe even cooler than me since you thought of the name first. What if we’re, like, twins or something, separated at birth through a freak accident? It could happen. Then it occurred to me that I could actually send you an email! And that brings us to now.
Well, I realize this has probably got to be the weirdest email you’ve ever gotten and that’s ok. But today is my “do things I never thought I’d actually get around to doing” day so here we are. I’m going to send this email before I chicken out again, so write back soon!

Well, I did get a write-back real soon. In fact, I got one almost immediately:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I’m afraid I wasn’t able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I’ve given up. Sorry it didn’t work out.
67.195… failed after I sent the message.
Remote host said: 554 delivery error: dd This user doesn’t have a yahoo.com account (nazaret@yahoo.com)

That’s too bad. Can you get the yahoo addy now though? I had wondered about the significance of your username.
@steve I might be able to get it I spose, but I’m already kind of attached to the other one. Now I’m going to be wondering for the rest of all eternity what happened to nazaret. Did she get hit by a bus? I think I’ll make up a random story or her life just so I can settle it with my soul.
I think Yahoo just likes saying that IDs are taken that really aren’t. I wanted to get holly.ord@yahoo.com and come the hell on, who else out there has my name? I have not heard of another Holly Ord—Ever and I have looked extensively, yet Yahoo tells me time and again that it is taken.
@Holly hrmmm . . . well, holly_ord is available. But supposedly holly.ord is taken, although an email sent to that address begets and failure notice as well. I think I’d see if there was a way I could dispute the availability of that name.
Awwww, this touched my heart (because your desire to connect was adorable), quenched my curiosity (I wondered where Calinazaret came from), and made me sad (WTF BOUNCE BACK E-MAIL!?)
@Katharine yeah, I’m pretty much a giant bundle of emotions all the time myself. I really need to get better at responding to comments on my site, eh? Lol.
